The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. However, the Regulations do not specify how frequently.
The frequency of inspecting and testing electrical appliances depends on the type of equipment and the environment that the equipment is used. A good example of the frequency of which an item should be inspected: A power drill that is used daily on a construction site will need checking more often than a Kettle in a hotel room.
